For the Love of Kettleballs

Kettleball

Ever since I joined a very expensive gym in 2008 and went twice – equating to £60 per session – I’ve sworn off extortionate sweaty boxes in the hunt for cheaper activities.

Now that I appear to have spent the last month putting food and drink in my face it’s time to remind my body what exercise feels like using my favourite fitness-tool of all time: an 8kg Kettlebell that I quite happily swing round my head a few times a week…in my pyjamas…in front of the TV.

If you’ve never seen one before, a Kettlebell is essentially a large weighted ball with a looped handle attached. There’s specific exercises you can learn to get the best out of it, and trust me, after 10 minutes it gets the best out of you (and then some). Your core is the main target, and you often find yourself working your upper and lower parts of your body at the same time, the best way to tone up and burn energy (so I’m reliably informed).

The best thing about a Kettlebell is that they cost under £20 and you can easily browse the World Wide Web for exercises and advice. A scratch on the surface of a gym membership and far easier to fit into your busy life.
