Are you a victim of FOMO? Then the last place you want to visit is New York. But read how VT overcame her fear of missing out while visiting earlier this year.
Hate the feeling of missing out on something when you visit big cities? Especially those that never sleep. Me too. So when I visited New York earlier this year I made it my mission to lose my FOMO and embrace the here and now. This being my third trip to NYC I dropped the tourist attractions off my list and opted for a more relaxed living like a New Yorker option: copious breakfast, lunch and dinner, gallons of coffee and walking the length of 5th avenue in 4 inch heels.
1 >> Flex Mussels
Flex serves up an unexpected menu that reads like a who’s who of mussel-centric gastronomy, and not without some other outrageously original and exotic offerings, a world class oyster program, an esoteric beer selection and a hand-picked wine list. Add to that a dessert selection as twisted as the mussels and the famous ‘Flex Donut Collection’ with flavours ranging from fresh blueberry and salted caramel to absinthe, chocolate and tequila cherry sriracha. If you’re heading across the Atlantic at some point I strongly recommend you make reservations.
BEST FOR: Group bookings

2 >> The Chelsea Highline
The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues. It’s perfect for an afternoon walk where you can stroll into one of the many cafes or explore the galleries and boutiques along the way.

3 >> Boom Boom Room
I’ve been desperate to go here every since I had a severe case of FOMO when I saw a well known London blogger partying the night away – so as soon as I landed at JFK I made reservations for the following Saturday and I wasn’t disappointed. Placed at the top of The Standard it boasts the best views of downtown, serves some of the best cocktails and has a beautiful, impeccably dressed crowd.
BEST FOR: Going out out

4 >> Vezzos
Have you ever wished that you had a long lost Italian family so that you could discover them and ask them to make you pizza all day long? Well in case this incredibly likely event hasn’t happened to you, then go to Vezzos. It’s a beautiful little pizzeria on Lex which doesn’t have a michelin star, it doesn’t have recommendations from all the famous italian gangsters that have eaten there, it doesn’t even have a huge choice of pizza but what it does have is the best crust I have ever eaten!
BEST FOR: Cosy nights

5 >> TAO Downtown
Designed by Rockwell Group, TAO Downtown offers a distinct sense of arrival and discovery. It’s a multi level restaurant/club which serves up a wide variety of pan asian dishes that can be washed down by any cocktail you fancy – even if it’s not on the menu. Reservations are hard to come by but if you’re desperate to go then call them in the morning and ask to be put on the cancellation list.
BEST FOR: Pre drinking dinner
DRESS CODE: Glad rags

6 >> Sporting events
There really is no other place in the world where I would happily spend the night at a sports game. New York does it so well that you can’t help but get sucked into the crowd and before you know it you’re eating a footlong and screaming “Defence!!!” at the court. Do check out what’s playing before you leave.

If you tick even 3 of these on your trip to New York you’ll shake that FOMO guaranteed.
