Coffee table books – I have many, but none as beautiful as the New York Sketchbook. Take a glimpse into the creative travel journal here.
Jason Brooks is a British born author and acclaimed worldwide illustrator. You may be familiar with his work if (like me) you used to be a fan of Hedkandi, you may be aware of his fashion editorial sketches or might have even seen the popular Virgin Atlantic campaign Brook’s brought to life. Whichever way you could have come across his work it’s instantly recognisable and with an accolade of awards from Vogue to V&A it’s certain that the industry also appreciates his talent.
As the third book in the series, following the popular Paris and London Sketchbooks, the New York Sketchbook is a colourful and imaginative delight. Although many travellers have documented the city that never sleeps, none have done so in such a beautifully illustrative manner. Against a backdrop of iconic landmarks such as the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, Brook’s celebrates New York’s vibrant nature and depicts the day-to-day lives of native city residents from diner to doorstep.
What’s also really lovely about this book is the quality of the print. Coming from a designer who is obsessed with paper this really is a deciding factor for me when choosing a creative book to buy. With a mix of paper stocks and a beautifully bound spine it adds to the luxury of the content and brings the journey to life.
Whether you are looking for a vibrant coffee table showpiece, or to gain an insight into New York travel, this book ticks all the boxes.
