Nailed Art

Nail art has become the hottest beauty trend in 2013, and I can’t get enough.

Geometric shapes, multi-coloured tips, stripes, spots and dots: adorning your nails with glitter and gold is the new way to express yourself.

A male friend of mine recently told me the first thing he looks at when he makes a new female acquaintance is their nails. “You can tell a lot about a girl from her nails…” he explained, “…nicely done nails means she looks after herself, nail art means she’s got edge”.

Got edge.

That sounds good.

I want me some edge.

This year big beauty brands jumped on the band wagon and are now offering nail pens, matte polish, glitter dust, beads and even ‘fur’ for talons. Barry M is leading the way and boasts a range of accessories so big and bold I’d need a new fridge to house them all (yes gentlemen, news flash, nail polish must replace beers in the fridge).

Once you have the tools in place it’s time to get creative. Sculpt your tips, apply a good base coat (this is where you should splash out, try OPI’s Natural Nail Base Coat: it prevents staining from dark colours and is therefore my godsend) and then choose your design. Here’s some more ideas for you, including the Christmas nails I’m currently rocking!
