Cocotte: Chicest Chicken Shop In Town

by May 3, 2018

Need a healthy option for eating out this Summer? Amidst the buzz of Westbourne Grove, nests a divine little farm to table rotisserie…

It seems to be the case that sometimes the simplest formulas work out to be the best. Restaurants that can offer you endless fusions of five different cuisines and every type of meat, grain and vegetable can end up being overwhelming. Cocotte, in Notting Hill, seems to have struck gold – keep it simple, do it really well, and scattering in a few magic touches.

Opening their second site in Hoxton Square soon, Cocotte offers healthy, delicious, homemade dishes. The sauces (ranging from green, or spicy to Truffle Mayo) are excellent, the salads (all named after French girls’ names) are generous and packed full of goodness and the main event is quite spectacular. The chickens are free range and sourced directly from an independent farm in the Loire Valley region. Cocotte marinade them in a blend of herbs and spices for 24 hours then slowly cook them on a traditional rotisserie spit.

There’s a lovely feel to the restaurant – perhaps stemming from its French roots, the place embraces families, friends, lovers and anyone else looking for really good food. The design is subtle but stunning – from the flamingo print wallpaper in the downstairs loos, to the beautiful farm inspired wood in the main space. You can linger for hours or you can pop in for a quick bite, it’s perfect for both.

Like the surroundings, the menu is versatile – you can indulge in Truffle Mac and Cheese alongside your Half Chicken, or you can go for a Quarter Chicken and a small version of the Nathalie salad (large servings are a full main). If you fancy something sweet to finish with, the green tea mochi are divine and there’s a Date and Coconut cake which is refined sugar free.

Ensure you check out the drinks menu – again offering something for any time of the day or mood. Healthy lunch with a friend? Try a cold pressed juice or a matcha green tea, or of course delicious French Rosé and Chablis by the glass. After work catch-up on a warm summer’s evening? There’s an entire page dedicated to their creative spritz for you to explore.

Yes, London has a good few chicken shops these days. But Cocotte sets itself apart – it’s an impressively understated spot serving genuinely good food well.
