Amplifying the difficulty of a spin class by doing it submerged in a swimming pool has never been high on my bucket list, but by the end of my first class Aqua Spin had won me over.
Created and developed in Italy for athletes and ballerinas who need rehabilitation from years of overuse and injury, Aqua Spin’s a unique workout that simultaneously manages to relax and invigorate (and you don’t even get your hair wet!).
Classes usually last 45 minutes: the same as an average spin class, and are filled by a women of all ages looking to prevent and repair injury, shed baby weight, increase cardio or challenge themselves in a new way.
The initial overwhelmingly unnatural sensation of cycling underwater quickly melts away as you test out your aqua shoes. And for those thinking it sounds as challenging as your nan’s aqua aerobics classes, it may come as a pleasant surprise to you that Aqua spin burns up to 500 calories per workout. I can honestly say my quads, glutes and core felt well and truly blasted.
