Do you ever take a day off work to unwind and clear your mind? You’ve been working all hours and just need to relax. You don’t have a doctor’s appointment, you’re not meeting your bank manager, you’re not even taking the cat to the vet, you’re just chilling. Well for me, today is that day. And if this sounds delightful to you and you’re considering doing the same then here’s what my day of anti-work in the city looked like:
Starting off on the Southbank I headed to the BFI. I love this place: not just because of the films you can watch for free, but also because it brings back memories of spending my lunch break with friends sitting in the bar devouring chip butties and wine. It’s well worth a visit for a bit of city escapism, with a gin martini thrown in for good measure.
From there, take a stroll along the river to Borough Market and indulge yourself in some of the best stall food London can offer, from truffles to macaroons to caviar. While you’re here, make sure you pop into Rabot Estate (a delectable chocolate shop) and Neals Yard Dairy (a cheese shop with something for everyone. Assuming you like cheese) to purchase treats for your evening of indulgence ahead.
Jump on the tube and head to East London for a pit-stop at Pitfield Cafe (read the review here) and chill for a little while before heading to Glyphics Shop on Leonard Street where I promise you’ll lose yourself for ages and come away with tonnes of inspiration and lots of pictures too. Finally, finish your adventure with a big glass of wine in The Book Club (also on Leonard Street).
If you’re anything like me, take the opportunity to cheers yourself for finding a better way to spend a workday chilling.
