Bringing you our selection of the biggest and baddest adland breaking news from the last 7 days. Because we don’t follow the rules.
The week at a glance:
Cadbury supply joy in the form of a sweety generator, O2’s ginger feline gives us a hip hop beat to bounce, Phones 4u show us the #FutureYou and W+K unleash a modern makeover for Chambord giving them a new voice, identity and a rather unique brand ambassador.
W+K launch their first campaign for Chambord
Do this, don’t do that, follow the rules, post a selfie. Why do we bend to social pressures? Why can’t we just do what we like, for no other reason than we like to?
These are the first installments of the new campaign created by Wieden+Kennedy since being awarded the global business and we bloody love it. The drinks company have had a bright new re-brand, identifying their target audience, finding their tone of voice voice and nailing a stylish look and feel overall. The spot saw the Introduction of the ‘Chambord woman’, the newest ambassador who perfectly embodies the new outlook of the brand. She is French, has her own style, is surrounded by a surreal pastel-coloured world where flamingoes roam indoors (why not) and is a little bit different. The campaign launched last week with a TV ad (watch here) and throughout the summer a social campaign will be launched promoting the ‘because no reason’ attitude at events where people are most vulnerable to bowing to social pressures such as festivals, fashion shows and that crucial Sat night go out or stay in dilemma. Fans will be given bright and witty doses of encouragement across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, in Chambord’s ‘absurd logic’ language.
Our favourite ginger Tom cat turns into a hip hop star for O2’s newest ad
It’s time to live big with the new BIG Bundles from O2. The latest ad to feature in the ‘be more dog’ campaign sees our favourite ginger cat living like a true hip hop star. The ad, set to ‘Ante Up’ by MOP, shows the furry feline/dog resting against a giant 4×4 while dancers burst out of the floor before he runs off to his gold throne surrounded by SIM card shaped neon lights (sound a bit trippy hey!?). VCCP, the agency behind the ad’s, launched the whopping £3 million ad on Wednesday which included TV, radio, online display and gaming. Bop along to the ad here.
Phones 4u look into the future
Phones 4u has launched a multi-million pound campaign inspired by the iconic 80s film ‘Back to the Future’. Developed by A&E DDB, the “For the future you” ad campaign was designed to highlight the knowledge that Phones 4u is able to provide its customers in-store, and how this helps people to choose a phone that will support their present and future lives.
Central to the activity has been a 60-second advert that sees a customer and member of Phones 4u staff transported into the future in the famous DeLorean car. How very retro! Check it out here.
Cadbury give us a ‘Joy Generator’
Chocolate brand Cadbury has created a one-of-a-kind vending machine that uses your Facebook profile to match you with one of its chocolate flavors. Called the ‘Joy Generator’, it has been dubbed as the “world’s first flavor-matching social vending machine”. To get matched, simply login to Facebook with the vending machine. Depending on your likes and interests, the machine will match and dispense one of twelve flavors. For example, if you happen to have an “energetic” personality, you’ll be matched with a ‘Crunchie’ bar, while those who are more sociable will be given the ‘Rocky Road’ flavor. Check out the campaign here.
Now go and enjoy a weekend in the tropical rain and thunderstorms, boo!
