Bringing you our selection of the biggest and baddest adland breaking news from the last 7 days…because this week, something actually happened.
The week at a glance:
This week some April tomfoolery was had by, er, most brands who had done their content planning effectively enough, snickers got sexist (against men, refreshingly), and Denmark got sexy.
April Fools >>
Dominos revamp their packaging
Not content with ‘innovating’ (sabotaging) their pizzas so that the crusts contain none other than BURGERS, Dominos gave us an April fools that could actually be touching the outer peripheries of believability: edible pizza boxes. Not one to avoid a opportunity to shovel carbs down our necks, this would be the perfect way to top off the dominos ‘hangover-indulgence’ experience. The prank was posted on Twitter with the caption “To those awaiting The #DominosEdibox, April Fools!”. View it here.
IKEA launch the ‘LONE’ range
Take yourself on a romantic date, with… well yourself, using IKEA’s new “LÖNE Singleton Dining Table”. The table is conveniently fitted with a mirror allowing you to gaze into your own eyes while sharing a bottle of wine (or two) and a romantic meal with yourself. One for the narcissists perhaps? Another one for the april fools out there.
AirBnb expand into new spaces
Calling on their MSN Messenger distant memories, the folk at AirBnb came up with the genius (but sadly very fake) sister company ‘AirBrb’ – which bases its model on allowing people to rent your desk space (and still-warm chair) while you pop out for lunch. Take a look at the site here.
And in other news >>
Snickers on the building site
Continuing their ‘you’re not you when you’re hungry’ campaign, snickers launched a controversial new ad this week in which typically laddish builders on construction sites shouted atypically laddish comments at passer-bys, incl: “I’D LIKE TO SHOW YOU THE RESPECT YOU DESERVE!” and other such words of equality. Coming under fire a tad from men-folk who believe that they ARE in fact usually that empowering, it still got some literal-LOLs from us TWOPettes. See the ad here.
Denmark gets sexy
In antithesis to the non-objectification of the Snickers work, travel company Spies Resjer plays off the fact that the Danes aren’t making as many babies as they used to by encouraging them to take romantic get-aways where their love-making can be fuelled by a lack of work stresses and copious rum punches. Totally unexpected, it’s a great angle to take in a normally staid sector and has definitely got people talking. We implore you, if you know a Dane, do your bit for their nation’s future…. Now go prepare for the boat race on Sunday!
