Bringing you our selection of the biggest and baddest adland breaking news from the last 7 days …because you’re probably worth it
The week at a glance:
Betfair pay homage to Paul the octopus, Sainsbury’s tackle food waste, Isobar host the D&AD SheSays awards, and LinkedIn ask ‘what’s your dream?’.
Betfair and Paul the octopus
Betfair, partner of ITV’s World Cup coverage, pay homage to infamous psychic tentacle-ridden ‘Paul’, who correctly predicted match outcomes in the 2010 World Cup. In the spot, the Paul replica smashes four games of table tennis at once, a skill which is likened to Betfair’s superior technology (somehow). The ad by WCRS was accompanied by a PR stunt which saw Paul riding a truck through central London – and pissing off a few taxi drivers along the way.
Sainsbury’s take on food waste
Food waste is a huge problem, and so Sainsbury’s (with the help of Google) have set out to try and help us work out what to do with our random leftovers via a very smart new website: Sainsbury’s Food Rescue. Just let them know what random ingredients you have left in the kitchen (e.g eggs, spring onions, tapioca, rhubarb etc etc) and Google will plug all that info into the tool…and out pops a recipe. A little bit of friendly competition never hurts: the site also shows which regions are saving the most food – and therefore money.
A really nice use of technology and partnership, that actually does a little bit of good too. Check out the ad here.
SheSays Awards
Last night TWOP attended the SheSays awards, celebrating women in the creative industry. It was a great night showcasing lots of beautiful work and lots of passion for breaking quotas and pushing the percentage of female creative directors above 3% (yes, you heard). Fun fact of the night came from Isobar’s inspiring CEO Nick Bailey: ‘More people have been killed by hurricanes with female names than male, because no-one runs from a female-named hurricane. It’s time they were given more respect’. Watch this space for an awards round-up soon.
LinkedIn – Whats your dream?
In it’s first ever brand campaign, LinkedIn asks “What’s your dream?”. The campaign, created in conjunction with BMB, demonstrates how the platform has helped its members follow their passions and achieve their ambitions to further their careers. A nice piece of storytelling demonstrating the important role the brand plays in peoples’ lives. Have a look at the ad’s here.
Happy sunshine Friday! Go play.
